When Athletics Meets Leisure

With “athleisure” at its peak on the runway and in ready-to-wear clothing lines, designers are embracing the concept of casual clothing that can be worn for exercising, running errands and everything in between. In 2016, Quincy-based clothing designer Avra Myers, best known for her A Ruby line of chic wardrobe staples, plunged into the athleisure market with AV-RA Performance. The workout line is a thoughtfully curated collection of leggings, tees, tanks and jackets.

“The simplicity and purity of AV-RA Performance embodies the effortless style of Parisian women,” says Myers. “At the same time, the styles have that extra authentic ‘moto’ detail,” she says, referencing the edgy motocross style that is weaved throughout the collection.

Made from ultra-absorbent, multi-stretch fabric, AV-RA Performance athletic wear is built for movement and breathability, but it’s polished enough for a night out on the town. The line also offers garments with UV PRO/UPF 50+ sun protection. “Our customer is busy, active and always on the go,” says Myers. “She wants to be comfortable and chic at the same time.”—Noelle Barbosa
