There are a million excuses people use for not going to the gym. Thankfully, for people looking for motivation—there’s an app for that. Developed by Plymouth fitness experts Sarah Clifford and Dita Fraser (both certified in personal training), YourGymGF has revolutionized the need for an in-person gym buddy.
The pair was inspired to create the app after realizing how a sense of camaraderie helped them to reach their own fitness goals.
“Something dramatically changes when you have to share your progress and daily activity with a group. Even though each user has a personal goal, every group member is now part of this team. As each individual user works harder the group gets stronger and vice versa,” Clifford and Fraser explain.
After downloading the app, users can join or create a private group, or follow YourGymGF’s social feed, which is similar in format to Instagram and Twitter. Users are able to share and access healthy recipes and workouts, and motivate one another through status updates, photos and words of encouragement. “Everything that annoys people on Facebook—whether posting a selfie or sharing a photo of what you had for breakfast—will be encouraged in our online community,” Clifford laughs.
Since its launch in June 2014, YourGymGF has gained more than 10,000 members. “Support really does create strength,” says Clifford. “[The app] is a safe place where people can feel comfortable discussing their weaknesses while setting [and overcoming] goals.” It’s motivation at your fingertips.
