Inside a colonial on South Main Street in Cohasset, artist Tina Watson invites passersby to step into her home-turned-gallery. Watson grew up in Cohasset and has been painting landscapes and landmarks of the South Shore for 20 years. On the walls of her gallery are acrylics, oils and encaustic pieces depicting local beaches, calm river scenes and clusters of coastal homes in bold colors and expressive strokes.
“Living on a salt marsh, I’ve been very much inspired by my surroundings and love everything about the ocean,” says Watson. The Cohasset artist has recently been hard at work for her next show, “Duxbury Time and Tide,” which will be on display at the Helen Bumpus Gallery in the Duxbury Free Library until the end of May. Watson spent months examining the marshes and coastline of Duxbury and Plymouth Bay and has created a variety of small and large paintings for the exhibit. “Duxbury is a very nautical community and there’s a lot to paint there,” says Watson.
The Helen Bumpus Gallery is located on the main level of the Duxbury Free Library at 77 Alden Street in Duxbury. The exhibit may be viewed during regular library hours.
