Weekends are all about relaxing and hanging out, right? That’s just what the folks at Weymouth’s Union Point think we should all be doing. Memorial Day weekend kicked off the much anticipated opening of The Hangout at Union Point. Every weekend this summer, the former naval station’s aircraft hangar will be transformed into a pop-up entertainment space, offering food, a beer garden, fitness classes, live music and products by local artisans. There will be outdoor gathering spaces, public art displays and DIY classes for people to enjoy. Local retailers will be operating out of retrofitted and brightly painted storage containers.
Friday nights are sure to be popular with families, as food trucks like Away Café, Sarcastic Swine BBQ, Montilio’s Bakery and South Shore Taco Guy roll in, and outdoor movie nights get underway. A farmer’s market will be held every Sunday and retailers like Polkadog Bakery, Wears Woody, Collettey’s Cookies and Gelato & Chill will be displaying some of their crafts. Restaurateur Sean Williams (owner of Boston’s Lucca restaurants) will be opening a number of food and beverage concepts as well.
Memebers of the communiity are also getting involved. Keep an eye out for Balance Studio of Cohasset’s weekend fitness series and South Shore Conservatory‘s summer-long music series featuring acoustic performers, student rock bands and family concerts. With free admission and free parking, The Hangout is making it easy for families to relax and have fun this summer.
