Summer Getaways with fantastic pools and water features

By Courtney Raymond

Crystal clear water, comfortable lounge chairs and a convenient cocktail bar is a recipe for a fantastic summertime escape. Thankfully, you don’t have to travel too far from the South Shore to find a relaxing getaway with a pristine poolside experience.

The Colonnade Hotel
Located in Boston’s stylish Back Bay, The Colonnade Hotel Roof Top Pool (RTP) is a posh pool located above the steamy summer concrete jungle. The pool opens in May and provides Bostonians and tourists an inviting place to cool down and kick back. From its perch 12 stories high, pool patrons can enjoy panoramic views of skyscrapers, Fenway Park and the city’s magnificent brownstones, lounge in private cabanas and enjoy signature cocktails and a delicious menu.

“The views make our pool feel like an urban oasis,” says Christopher Lynn, director of sales and marketing at The Colonnade. “It’s a relaxing experience where guests can take in the rays and also enjoy a full culinary experience. This year, we have added day beds with canopies, which give it a Miami feel.”

The RTP offers sunrise yoga every Wednesday morning as well as late-night entertainment. Live concerts, music and dancing courtesy of some the area’s best DJs make the pool a cool destination for those hot summer nights. The RTP is available to hotel guests and the general public on a first-come, first-served basis and is open Monday through Sunday. The Colonnade Hotel provides a perfect home base for visits to Newbury Street, The Shops at Prudential Center, Hynes Convention Center and many of the city’s iconic destinations, including Symphony Hall and Fenway Park.

Providence Marriott Downtown
Located in the heart of downtown Providence, AQUA at the Providence Marriott is the perfect blend of water, fire and music during the day or night. Whether you’re an out-of-towner relaxing on vacation or a local, playing hooky from work, you can take advantage of luxurious cabanas, an innovative menu, great music and the glow of four separate fire pits.

Touted as offering the “city’s largest and only connecting indoor and outdoor pools,” AQUA is a special experience that can be enjoyed almost year round. “The really neat part about our pools is that guests can swim from indoors right into the outdoor area,” says Jennifer Dahler, strategic marketing and communications manager for the Providence Marriott Downtown. “AQUA is a lively place, but it’s also an escape. It’s unusual and exciting to stumble upon this mini resort in the heart of the city.”

AQUA also offers outdoor spa services, live weekend entertainment and serves as a unique venue for parties, weddings or special events for up to 200 people. The space has an amazing tropical feel that is especially perfect for cocktail parties at weddings but families and couples also love the poolside offerings. The Providence Marriott offers guests the opportunity to refresh and recharge before exploring downtown Providence. With easy access to Waterplace Park, the Providence Place Mall, some of the city’s finest restaurants and its very own AQUA indoor/outdoor poolside lounge, it is a true urban oasis.

Wequassett Resort and Golf Club
Nestled on the elbow of Cape Cod, the Wequassett Resort and Golf Club is a luxurious 120-room hideaway with anything but unassuming features. Situated on 27 acres of picturesque gardens, sun-dappled lanes, salt marshes and woodlands, the resort offers the perfect quintessential New England getaway for the whole family. Lavish guest rooms and suites, four restaurants, two extraordinary beaches, tennis courts and 18 holes of exclusive championship golf make it a highly sought-after destination. However, the resort’s two pools are easily the most exquisite part of the property. Peaceful fountains and exquisite gardens usher guests into the main pool area, which boasts 270-degree views of Pleasant Bay, Round Cove and the ocean beyond.

Sitting poolside, guests can enjoy comfortable cabanas, crackling fire pits and the amenities at LiBAYtion, the resort’s beachfront bar. After taking in the beauty, enjoying a cocktail or going for a dip, guests 16 or older can meander over to the adult-only lap pool near the resort’s tennis pavilion.

“It’s a special family retreat that evokes fond memories and we help make those memories,” says Andy Ross, director of sales and marketing for Wequassett

Resort and Golf Club. Guests have direct access from the main pool to the resort dock, and from there they can catch a water shuttle for a scenic tour of the Cape Cod national seashore, take a sailboat excursion, take out a paddleboard, and more.
