Q&A with Scituate Photographer Kjeld Mahoney

Meet Kjeld Mahoney, owner of Kjeld Mahoney Photography

How long have you had your photography studio and what does it offer?

We have had our gallery/studio in Scituate Harbor for nine years. We offer beautifully framed and custom-mounted canvas and metal prints of many local nautical scenes and coastal locations. Most of our frames and mounts are handmade pieces made out of driftwood and antique/reclaimed wood.

What’s an example of a really cool custom photo project/product that you’ve made?

I have been recently creating “live edge” frames made out of driftwood. I leave rusty nails and all the character of the wood intact and just frame the top left or right corner and sides, leaving the live edge of the driftwood exposed.

What do you love most about being a photographer?

Total freedom of your schedule. Every day is a different experience. Making a living as an artist is an amazing feeling. I was not a fan of corporate cubicles. The challenge to stay relevant and in demand is getting harder and harder but it keeps me motivated.
