“Marsh River Reflections”

Donna Rossetti-Bailey

You’d never expect the tranquil view depicted in Donna Rossetti-Bailey soft pastel painting “Marsh River Reflections” was captured from a spot along a busy stretch of Route 3A in Scituate. “It’s one of my very favorite views and I’ve painted it numerous versions of it,” says Rossetti-Bailey. “I love that expanse of marsh and the tree line of the old railroad bed. It is so interesting and exciting to see how that place changes, not only with the tides, but the weather and the seasons. Rossetti-Bailey takes a lot of photos from different vantage points, make notes about the weather and colors, and then works on her art in her studio. She uses soft pastel sticks and blends the colors together to create impressions of South Shore scenes. “Opening a box of brand new pastels never gets old,” she says. Rossetti-Bailey teaches at South Shore Art Center in Cohasset and North River Arts Society in Marshfield Hills. For more information, visit DonnaRossetti-Bailey.com.
