The Cottage Bar & Restaurant, which opened last summer in the former Mollie Maguire’s Pub location in Columbian Square, offers an authentic taste of Irish fare in a lively setting. You won’t see a boiled dinner on the menu, but you will find a soul-warming bowl of Guinness and onion soup, Irish-style bangers and mashed potatoes, hearty beef stew, crunchy beer-battered fish sandwiches and slow-cooked chicken curry (served “half and half” with a side of jasmine rice and crispy fries).
The weekends can get very busy at The Cottage Bar and Restaurant, so arrive early to avoid a long wait for brunch. The traditional Irish breakfast comes complete with black-and-white pudding, Irish sausage and bacon and a side of beans. Other brunch favorites include a Gaelic omelet with melted cheddar cheese, a corned-beef Reuben served on grilled rye bread and “cottage pie,” the chef’s take on shepherd’s pie.
Stop in for a pint of Guinness and an addicting order of golden, hand-cut fries topped with garlic-truffle Parmesan while enjoying Irish music. The pub hosts traditional Irish music seisiúns twice a week (every Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. and on Sunday afternoons). 26 Union St., Weymouth, 781-812-2083 —Kellie Speed
