Celebrating fresh seafood and community at Local 02045By Kellie Speed | Photography by Dan Urbano
Incredible ocean views aren’t the only thing making Local 02045 a standout dining establishment, but they certainly sweeten the deal. Situated in a spot formerly occupied by Art’s Restaurant at Sunset Bay Marina in Hull, guests enjoy panoramic views of the distant Boston skyline and spectacular sunsets reflected on the bay.
Located just past Nantasket Beach in the residential section of A Street in Hull, the newly renovated restaurant opened in April and quickly gained popularity, thanks in part to the reputation of its management team (the same group owns and operates The Tavern at Quarry Hills in Quincy and The Range Bar & Grille in Hingham). The restaurant has three levels. There’s an exclusive members-only lounge on the first floor for marina guests, a main dining room and bar on the second floor with an outdoor deck, and a third-floor casual dining room with another deck and bar.
The menu crafted for Local 02045 features a blend of classic Italian and New England seafood dishes, with a focus on locally sourced shellfish, meat and produce.
On our recent visit, my friend and I dined on the upper deck and got our night started with one of the specialty cocktails, the Painkiller, prepared with Bacardi rum, piña colada mix, orange and pineapple juices and a dash of nutmeg. For beer lovers, there’s a nice selection of craft brews on tap, including local favorites like Weymouth’s Barrel House Z.
A full menu is available on the main restaurant floor after 4 p.m. and features items like tender steak tips, a mixed grill and Italian favorites like chicken marsala and chicken piccata. The top level of the restaurant has a more casual atmosphere where the focus is on tasty bar bites like oven-roasted chicken wings, Philly cheesesteak rolls, cheeseburger nachos, spicy buffalo tenders and juicy burgers.
We ordered one of the “Captain’s Favorites,” the beer bucket steamers, that came with warm broth and drawn butter for dipping. We also enjoyed a plate of hand-breaded calamari, which was lightly fried and served with a side of tangy marinara sauce. One of our favorite dishes on the menu was the shrimp scampi. The plump shrimp are sautéed in a delicious, garlicky white wine sauce filled with cherry tomatoes and served over a bed of fresh linguine. Fish tacos were another hit. Three tortillas came filled with blackened cod, topped with a heaping portion of pico de gallo and complemented with spicy sriracha ranch dressing and cool avocado crème. Some of the other popular menu items include the lobster rolls, served on a buttery brioche roll, the fried scallop rolls and whole belly clam rolls.
Perched over the bustling marina, Local 02045 is a prime dock-and-dine destination. Sunset Bay Marina offers 80 transient dock spaces for boaters that are just steps away from the restaurant, making the trip to Local 02045 half the fun.
