Inspired by family summers spent on Cape Cod, South Shore artist Amy Keller’s miniature, sea-themed encaustic art pieces are perfect for art lovers and beachcombers alike. The owner of Bumble Belly Designs, Keller specializes in creating encaustic art and printed textiles. Her encaustic paintings are made using delicate paper cutouts covered by a thin layer of encaustic wax that is applied while it is hot and pliable. The wax is molded with various tools like a heat gun or hot iron to add dimension to the image. Her “waxed minis” are smaller versions of her original encaustic art pieces. The images are mounted onto a 4×4-inch braced board and then painted with a wax medium. They can be purchased individually, but also look great when hung together, like this crab, lobster, sand dollar and seahorse grouping. To see more of her work, click here.
