Celebrate all things “woolly” at a Sheep and Shawl Day exploring the process of turning wool into cloth and fiber arts with a demonstration of 18th century spinning, weaving, rug hooking, knitting and more. Visit with lambs from the Soule Homestead Education Center in Middleborough. Try hands-on activities in spinning and weaving.
The textile demonstrations will feature eighteenth-century reenactor Penny Lacroix of Westford, an expert spinner and weaver who has a home studio and gives workshops and presentations around New England. Penny is also director of the Westford Historical Society.
Tours of Alden House will also be offered. Admission for tours is $8 for adults; $5 for kids and students; members are free.
The program is supported by a grant from the Duxbury Cultural Council.
Designated a National Historic Landmark, the museum is operated by the Alden Kindred of America.
