Bouquets of fresh-cut flowers and plates of homemade cookies adorn the counter at The Foodsmith, a cozy new lunch spot and bakery in Duxbury. The menu changes daily, featuring flavorful sandwiches, salads and baked goods and owner/baker Laura Raposa is always coming up with creative dishes to impress her discerning clientele.
“Everyone who walks in the door is a VIP,” says Rapoza, who seeks to make every meal a memorable one. Rapoza, who grew up in the bakery biz (her family owned a large bakery wholesale supply business in southern New England) spent a good chunk of her career working as a columnist for the Boston Herald while operating a small catering business on the side. She later worked at Flour Bakery in Boston and has attended programs at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. and King Arthur Flour’s Baking Education Center in Norwich, Vt. Raposa now spends her days perfecting mouth-watering recipes, often sourcing her ingredients locally. Customers can stop in for a breakfast sandwich and organic cold-brew or pick up their now infamous lobster BLT (even the writers at Vogue Magazine love it) for lunch. There are a few bar seats beside the window for customers who can’t wait to dig in, but the better idea is to pack up our lunch and head down the street to Duxbury Beach to enjoy your decadent lobster BLT with your toes in the sand. 17 Standish St., South Duxbury, 781-934-0134
