A new Braintree restaurant is committed to serving food that is scrumptious and allergy-safe.By Brianna Winters
Located just steps away from the Residence Inn by Marriott in Braintree, the newly opened 110 Grill is dedicated to serving great-tasting American cuisine with a creative flair and accommodating diners with dietary restrictions. I recently had the opportunity to stop in the restaurant for lunch and when my server handed me the menu, he flipped it over to point out the restaurant’s allergy commitment statement.
Since food allergies are a concern for many diners, 110 Grill does everything in its power to cater to ensure the safety of their guests. “Right now, all but one of the dishes on our menu can be modified for allergies,” says restaurant manager Mike Chin. “All members of the wait staff, chefs and management are highly trained in preventing cross-contamination in the kitchen and are knowledgeable about the ingredients in each dish.”
The 110 Grill has an open kitchen and high-top seating where patrons can enjoy watching chefs prepare their food—after all, you eat with your eyes first. But if you’re looking for a more traditional dining experience, there are plenty of tables and booths as well as a private dining room that can seat up to 50 guests.
“The food is American with a twist of spices and flavors that gives each dish a deep flavor profile,” says culinary director Elliot Williams. After perusing the selection of dishes on the menu, my friend and I decided to try a few of Williams’ recommendations and ordered two bowls of thick and hearty gluten-free clam chowder and BBQ chicken nachos. The nacho plate was piled high with colorful corn chips and layered with cheddar cheese, black beans and shredded barbeque chicken. The chips were drizzled with ranch and BBQ sauce, which gave the dish a sweet and smoky twist.
The menu features several interesting salads. We enjoyed a Blue Cheese Wedge that came covered in creamy blue cheese dressing and topped with a drizzle of balsamic reduction, bacon bits and chopped tomatoes. If you prefer having a little extra protein in your salad, the Steak Salad is piled high—literally—with savory beef tips placed atop a tower of thick-sliced beefsteak tomatoes and red onions. The made-from-scratch steak sauce perfectly complements the bacon and blue cheese crumbles in the dish, and a light balsamic dressing adds flavor to a delicious bed of artisan greens—see, we told you it was a salad.
Next, the chef brought out one of the restaurant’s signature dishes, the 110 Cucumber & Avocado Tuna. Reminiscent of a deconstructed sushi roll, quick-seared tuna steaks dusted with Cajun seasoning came served over jasmine rice, with a tall cone of crisp cucumber and sweet melon strips.
Other favorites on the menu include the 110 Chicken Caprese Parmesan, a healthy twist on a traditional Italian classic, and the gluten-free fish and chips. “There was a woman here for lunch the other day who hadn’t had fried food in almost 15 years because she has to follow a gluten-free diet,” says general manager Tim Donegan. “She almost started to cry when we told her that she could eat our fish and chips.”
