10 Tips for Great River Race Success

Rowers, kayakers, stand-up paddlers and people operating a variety of other non-motorized watercraft will convene on July 30 to take part in the 26th Annual Great River Race. Here are a few helpful things to know before you go.

start with Turkey boat

Register early
You can register online or on paper. Early registration is $55 for the first participant, per craft, then $10 for each additional person on the same boat. Registrants get a Great River Race shirt.

Get dressed up
Prizes will be given for the best decorated boat or boater so have fun and show off your creativity.

Remember your life jacket

Be sure to bring a hat and sunblock

Stay hydrated
Seven miles is a long way in the heat, so be prepared with snacks and water.

Bring the entire family
The race is open to all ages and all skill levels. There’s even an event division for the family to canoe down the river.

Use whatever boat you want
As long as the boat isn’t motorized, it can be entered in the race. You can even bring your stand-up paddle board.

Enjoy the beauty
The race starts at Bridge Street Canoe Launch in Norwell and ends at Indian Head Road in Hanover with over seven miles of scenery along the way.

Give generously
This year there is a peer-to-peer fundraiser that allows you and your friends to raise funds to help take care of the North River. If you raise the most money, you will win prizes.

Join the after party
After the race, meet at McGreal’s Tavern in Norwell to enjoy food and drinks, and even possibly win some awards.
